What we do

Roofing, siding and everything that keeps the weather out

Homes, farm buildings and commercial roofs across Iowa — hand-built by Amish craftsmen. Every job starts with a free look and an honest number.

01 — Roof replacement

A full tear-off, done the honest way

Most of what goes wrong with a roof happens under the shingles. That is why we tear off down to the bare deck instead of laying a second layer over the top of a tired one. With the old roof gone we can actually see the sheathing — and replace whatever is soft, cracked or rotten before it becomes your problem in February.

You get a written quote that spells out the shingle, the underlayment, the flashing and the price. If we open the roof and find rotten deck, we show you the board before we replace it. No mystery charges at the end.

  • Complete tear-off to the deck — never a layover unless you ask for one
  • Rotten sheathing found, shown to you, and replaced
  • Ice-and-water shield at eaves and valleys — the Iowa essential
  • Synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, new pipe boots and flashing
  • Architectural shingles in the color you pick, ridge vent to finish

Leaks we get called about most

  • Chimney and wall flashing that was caulked instead of stepped
  • Cracked plumbing boots — the single most common leak we find
  • Open valleys that were never lined properly
  • Nail pops backing out and lifting shingle tabs
  • Ice-dam damage along the eaves after a hard winter
  • Wind-lifted shingles along rakes and ridges

02 — Repair & leaks

Find the real leak. Fix that.

A stain on the ceiling is almost never directly under the hole. Water runs along rafters and decking before it finds a place to drop, so we track it back to where it actually gets in rather than smearing sealant on the nearest suspicious spot.

Coming out to look is free. If it is a genuine repair, we will tell you and we will fix it. If the roof is at the end of its life and a repair is throwing good money after bad, we will tell you that too — even though it is the answer that makes us no money today.

03 — Metal roofing

Steel that outlives the mortgage

Metal costs more up front and then quietly stops costing you anything. It sheds snow, it does not curl or blow off in a straight-line wind, and it will very likely be the last roof the building ever needs.

We install both standing seam — hidden fasteners, the cleanest look, best for houses — and exposed-fastener panel, which is the workhorse for shops, machine sheds and barns. Unlimited color choices either way.

  • Standing seam and exposed-fastener steel
  • Houses, shops, machine sheds, barns and additions
  • Snow guards over doorways and walkways where you need them
  • Matching trim, ridge cap and closures

Shingles or metal?

Both are good roofs. The honest short version:

  • Architectural shingles — lower up-front cost, easy to repair, blends with the neighborhood. Plan on decades, not a lifetime.
  • Standing seam metal — costs more now, sheds snow, handles wind, and generally outlasts everything around it.

We will quote both on the same roof if you want to see the numbers side by side. Just ask.

04 — Storm & hail damage

After the storm, get a straight answer

Iowa gets hail, and it gets straight-line wind that does more damage than most people realize from the ground. After a storm we will come out and walk the roof for free, photograph what we find, and tell you plainly whether there is enough damage to be worth a claim.

We are not storm chasers. We are not going to knock on your door the day after a hailstorm and push you into filing. If the roof is fine, we will say the roof is fine.

  • Free post-storm inspection with photos you can keep
  • Plain documentation to hand your insurance adjuster
  • We will meet the adjuster on site if it helps your claim
  • Emergency tarping to stop active water damage

05 — Ventilation

The part nobody sells you, and the part that decides how long your roof lasts

A roof cooks itself from underneath when the attic cannot breathe. Hot damp air sits against the decking, shingles age from the back side, and in winter that same warm air melts snow that refreezes at the cold eave and builds an ice dam.

Ventilation is not glamorous and it is not expensive, but getting it right is the difference between a roof that reaches its rated life and one that quietly gives up ten years early. We check intake and exhaust on every single job, whether you asked us to or not.

  • Continuous ridge vent cut and installed properly
  • Soffit and intake vents cleared or added — exhaust alone does nothing
  • Bath and kitchen fans vented outside, not into the attic
  • Ice-and-water shield at the eaves to fight ice dams

06 — Siding

Siding, soffit and fascia

The same crew that does your roof can wrap the rest of the house. We install LP SmartSide, steel and vinyl siding on new builds and existing homes, and we replace the soffit and fascia that usually turn out to be worse than anyone expected once the old material comes off.

If you are already replacing the roof, doing the siding in the same stretch saves you a second mobilization and a second round of ladders in the flower beds.

What we install

  • LP SmartSide engineered wood — lap, panel and board & batten
  • Steel siding, unlimited colors
  • Vinyl siding and insulated vinyl
  • Soffit, fascia, wrap and trim
  • House wrap and flashing done before anything goes on

Why gutters matter more than people think

A roof moves an enormous amount of water in a hurry. Iowa gets rain that arrives all at once. Undersized or clogged gutters dump that water straight down along the foundation — which is how a roof problem quietly turns into a wet basement problem.

  • Seamless aluminum gutter, rolled on site
  • 5″ and 6″ sizing to match the actual roof area
  • Downspouts routed to carry water away from the foundation
  • Gutter guards if you are tired of the ladder every fall

07 — Gutters

Seamless gutters & downspouts

We run seamless aluminum gutter on site so there are no joints down the length of the run to eventually work loose and drip. Colors are matched to the trim, and we size the gutter and the downspouts to the roof that is actually above them.

Gutters are usually cheapest to do while we already have the roof open and the ladders up. Mention it when you call and we will put it on the same quote.

08 — Farm & pole buildings

Barn roofs, machine sheds and pole buildings

Agricultural work is where a lot of our crew learned the trade. We re-roof and re-skin barns, horse barns, hog houses, chicken coops, grain storage, machine sheds and shops — and we build new post-frame buildings from the ground up.

Farm buildings are big, exposed, and expensive to get wrong. They also cannot sit open for a week. We plan the job around your operation and we do not start a section we cannot close in.

  • Re-roof and re-skin existing barns and sheds
  • New post-frame pole buildings, shops and storage
  • Horse barns with stalls, tack rooms and run-in sheds
  • Livestock buildings, grain storage and equipment sheds

Also on the list

Cabins, garages, greenhouses, lean-tos, porch roofs, dormers, cupolas — the odd jobs that other outfits do not want to bid. If you can describe it, there is a good chance we can build it.

Where low-slope shows up

  • Porch and carport roofs
  • Additions and dormer tie-ins
  • Shop and small commercial buildings
  • Anything under about a 2:12 pitch, where shingles will fail

09 — Low-slope & commercial

Rubber and TPO membrane

Shingles need pitch to work. Put them on a nearly flat porch roof and water will find its way under them — it is only a question of when. Low-slope sections get a proper single-ply membrane instead: EPDM rubber or TPO, seamed and flashed as one continuous surface.

A lot of houses have one low-slope section hiding somewhere, and it is very often the part that is actually leaking. We handle both on the same job.

Good, hard, honest work at a fair price

Not sure which one you need?

That is what the free estimate is for. We will come look, tell you what we actually see, and give you a number for it.
